Pokémon Beginner’s Flow Guide
(ポケモン赤・青 攻略フローガイド)
Pallet Town – Your Journey Begins
ゲームは マサラタウン の自宅 2F から始まります。
-
Step outside and head north to Route 1.
-
In the tall grass, Professor Oak (オーキド博士) will stop you.
-
He takes you to his lab and lets you choose one of three starter Pokémon:
-
Bulbasaur (フシギダネ)
-
Charmander (ヒトカゲ)
-
Squirtle (ゼニガメ)
-
💡 Tip(ヒント): Beginners should pick Bulbasaur or Squirtle, while advanced players may challenge themselves with Charmander. Once chosen, you cannot change later.
First Rival Battle
When leaving the lab, your Rival (ライバル) challenges you to a battle.
-
It doesn’t matter if you win or lose — the story continues.
-
Afterward, head north through Route 1.
🌱 野生ポケモン (wild Pokémon) will appear. Defeat them to gain experience points (経験値).
-
If your Pokémon run low on HP or PP, heal at your home (お母さんに回復してもらえる) or at the Pokémon Center in Viridian City (トキワシティ).
(トキワシティ)

-
Visit the Poké Mart (フレンドリーショップ) to pick up a Parcel (おとどけもの) for Professor Oak.
-
At this stage, you cannot progress further north. Return to Pallet Town.
Back to Pallet Town
-
Give the Parcel to Professor Oak.
-
He rewards you with the Pokédex (ポケモン図鑑), which records all Pokémon you see and catch.
-
Visit your Rival’s house and receive the Town Map (タウンマップ).
🗺️ 「町と町の位置関係」がわかる便利アイテム。初心者には必須。
Viridian City – Round Two
Now, the adventure truly begins!
-
Heal your Pokémon at the Pokémon Center.
-
North of the city, an old man demonstrates how to catch Pokémon(ポケモンの捕まえ方).
-
You can now buy Poké Balls at the Mart.
-
Money (お金) is earned by defeating other Trainers.
Optional Challenge: Go west to Route 22 where your Rival appears again.
⚠️ 注意: He is strong at this point. Save before the battle! If you beat Pewter City Gym Leader later, this battle disappears.
Viridian Forest (トキワの森)
Head north to the forest.
-
This is your first dungeon-like area.
-
Expect many wild encounters (野生ポケモン) and multiple Trainers.
-
Don’t fear fainting — even if you lose half your money, battles help your team grow.
Pewter City (ニビシティ)
After the forest, you reach Pewter City.
-
Heal up and challenge the Pewter Gym.
-
Leader Brock (タケシ) specializes in Rock-type Pokémon.
-
Use Grass (草) or Water (みず) moves for an advantage.
🏆 Victory rewards you with TM34 (がまん).
Route 3 → Mt. Moon (オツキミ山)
-
East of Pewter lies Route 3, filled with Trainers. Heal often.
-
At the end, you’ll find Mt. Moon, a tough cave.
Inside Mt. Moon:
-
Wild Pokémon appear everywhere (地面全体が草むらと同じ扱い).
-
You’ll need at least 3 Pokémon to handle it.
-
On B2F, defeat a Scientist and choose either:
-
Helix Fossil (かいのかせき) → later becomes Omanyte (オムナイト)
-
Dome Fossil (こうらのかせき) → later becomes Kabuto (カブト)
⚠️ Only one can be chosen.
-
Route 4 → Cerulean City (ハナダシティ)
Exiting Mt. Moon brings you to Route 4.
Jumping down the ledges here prevents you from returning to Pallet Town or Pewter City.
Cerulean City (ハナダシティ)
-
Challenge the Gym Leader Misty (カスミ).
-
She specializes in Water-type Pokémon.
-
If you started with Bulbasaur (フシギダネ), this battle will be very easy.
-
-
Winning earns you TM11 – BubbleBeam (バブルこうせん).
Nugget Bridge (ゴールデンブリッジ)
-
Head north to the bridge.
-
Your Rival (ライバル) appears again for another battle.
-
Defeat the Trainers on the bridge, and at the far right cottage, meet Bill (マサキ).
-
He rewards you with the S.S. Ticket (ふねのチケット).
Team Rocket Encounter
-
Back in Cerulean, check the burglarized house.
-
Exit through the back and battle a Team Rocket (ロケット団) member.
-
Defeating him gives you TM28 – Dig (あなをほる).
Now, head south through the Underground Path to Vermilion City (クチバシティ).
Vermilion City (クチバシティ)
Key Activities
There are several things to do, in any order you like (好きな順番でOK):
-
Pokémon Fan Club (ポケモン大好きクラブ)
-
Speak to the Chairman for a Bike Voucher (ひきかえけん).
-
Exchange it in Cerulean City for a Bicycle (じてんしゃ) → Travel becomes much faster.
-
-
S.S. Anne (サントアンヌ号)
-
Use Bill’s ticket to board.
-
The ship is full of Trainers — feel free to heal in town and return.
-
Near the Captain’s room, your Rival appears again.
-
Talk to the Captain afterward to receive HM01 – Cut (いあいぎり).
⚠️ The ship departs after this, so make sure to battle everyone and collect all items first!
-
-
Vermilion Gym – Leader Lt. Surge (マチス)
-
Use Cut to clear the small tree blocking the entrance.
-
This Gym focuses on Electric-type Pokémon (でんきタイプ).
-
Squirtle (ゼニガメ) users will find this battle tough.
-
-
To reach Surge, find two hidden switches in the trash cans:
-
The second is located next to the first (上下左右どこか).
-
If you fail, the puzzle resets. Patience is key!
-
-
Victory rewards you with TM24 – Thunderbolt (10まんボルト).
-
Diglett’s Cave (ディグダの穴) → HM05 Flash (フラッシュ)
-
East of Vermilion is Diglett’s Cave.
-
Passing through brings you near Pewter City (ニビシティ).
-
In the building outside, talk to Professor Oak’s aide (オーキド博士の助手).
-
If you’ve caught at least 10 different Pokémon, he gives you HM05 – Flash (フラッシュ).
⚡ This move is essential for the upcoming Rock Tunnel (イワヤマトンネル).
Rock Tunnel (イワヤマトンネル)
-
From Cerulean, head east to the entrance of Rock Tunnel.
-
Inside, it’s pitch dark. Use Flash to light the way (必須).
-
Expect many Ground (じめん) and Rock (いわ) type wild Pokémon.

It’s a long, tough cave, so bring healing items and multiple Pokémon.
Lavender Town (シオンタウン)
At this point, there’s nothing major to do yet.
-
Heal at the Pokémon Center.
-
Head west toward Celadon City (タマムシシティ).

Back to Lavender Town (シオンタウン)
Pokémon Tower (ポケモンタワー)
-
With the Silph Scope, ghost Pokémon’s true forms are revealed.
-
On 2F, battle your Rival (ライバル).
-
At the top floor, defeat Team Rocket again and rescue Mr. Fuji (フジ老人).
-
Back in town, Mr. Fuji gives you the Poké Flute (ポケモンのふえ).
-
This allows you to wake up Snorlax (カビゴン) blocking routes later.
-
👉 Before heading southeast, make sure to unlock Saffron City by using the drinks you purchased in Celadon.
Saffron City (ヤマブキシティ)
Silph Co. Invasion (シルフカンパニー)

💡 Next to her gym is the Fighting Dojo (格闘王のジム).
-
Optional side challenge, not required for the main story.
Journey to Fuchsia City (セキチクシティ)
There are two possible routes to reach Fuchsia City:
-
Cycling Road (サイクリングロード)
-
If you have a Bicycle (じてんしゃ), head west from Celadon City.
-
Ride down the long Cycling Road full of Bikers.
-
Watch out for Poison-type Pokémon (どくタイプ) used by these Trainers.
-
-
Fishing Route (釣り場ルート)
-
From Lavender Town, go south past several docks and fishing spots.
-
Wild Water-type Pokémon appear here, making it a good place to practice capturing with the Super Rod later.
-
💡 Both paths are blocked by Snorlax (カビゴン).
-
Use the Poké Flute (ポケモンのふえ) from Mr. Fuji to awaken it.
-
Snorlax appears only twice in the game — highly recommended to catch it!
Fuchsia City (セキチクシティ)
Fuchsia Gym – Leader Koga (キョウ)
-
Specializes in Poison-type Pokémon (どくタイプ).
-
Many Trainers use tricky moves like Toxic (どくどく) and evasive techniques.

Prepare with Psychic or Ground moves for an easier battle.

The main highlight of Fuchsia City.
-
Entry fee: 500 steps limit (500歩制限).
-
Objective items:
-

-
HM03 – Surf (なみのり)
-
-
The Safari Zone is filled with rare Pokémon like Chansey, Kangaskhan, Tauros, and Scyther.
-
It may take multiple tries, so don’t get discouraged.
💡 Bring the Gold Teeth back to the Warden (園長). He rewards you with HM04 – Strength (かいりき).
👉 With this, you now have all HMs in the game.
Surf to Cinnabar Island (グレンタウン)
-
Use Surf from Fuchsia’s southern coast, or from Pallet Town.

Solve the boulder puzzles with Strength to control the water currents.
-
Deep inside, you’ll find the legendary bird Articuno (フリーザー).
-
At this stage, it’s very strong, so don’t worry if you can’t capture it yet.
