Elite Four & Rival (Champion) Battles
At the Indigo Plateau you’ll face five consecutive battles: the Elite Four plus your Rival. You can use items between fights, but there is no full party heal like at a Pokémon Center. Know their teams and type matchups to break through efficiently.
Lorelei (Ice-type Specialist)
Her team is mostly Water / Ice; Electric moves are great. Slowbro and Lapras are very bulky, so even super-effective hits may take a few turns—stay patient and keep chipping. Jynx has low HP and can be removed quickly.

Bruno (Fighting-type Specialist)
Use strong Water moves (e.g., Surf) on Onix, and Flying moves (e.g., Fly) on Hitmonchan / Hitmonlee.

Agatha (Ghost-type Specialist)
High-powered Psychic attackers (Kadabra / Alakazam) can sweep. She uses status a lot (Toxic, Confuse Ray), so long battles are risky.

Lance (Dragon-type Specialist)
- Gyarados takes 4× Electric. Outspeed and KO before it can fire off Hyper Beam.
- Use Ice moves (Ice Beam / Blizzard) on Dragonair / Dragonite; Aurora Beam is often too weak.
- He may use Full Restore. You can bait some uses on Dragonair to save resources for Dragonite—mind your HP and PP.

Rival (Champion)
Your Rival’s team changes based on your starter (in Yellow, based on prior battle outcomes). Keep a balanced roster and don’t hesitate to use recovery items.
